Myths Reimagined - Manananggal

Hey! My myth is the Filipino Manananggal, a vampiric creature that separates its upper half from it’s lower half, sprouts bat wings, and goes off to feed using its long probiscis-like tongue. I decided that this manananggal would be a cyborg powered by blood.

I used Nomad Sculpt to create the still human bits then retopologized in Maya. I’m now working on all the more mechanical bits in Maya as well.

Made a lot of progress today and last night! Really trying to think through how she disconnects from her legs while still trying to evoke the look of intestines hanging out when she doesn’t have any.

Finished her gloves and finishing up her mask + armor. Planning on taking the mask and armor into Nomad and add some fabric detailing and other surface details. After all that, I’m planning on tackling the wings and hair.

Added the wings and started on the tongue. Played around with ncloth to get some organic shape on the wings’ membranes.

Finished the needle at the end of the tongue as well as the hair today.

Then worked on UVing everything, which took forever

Been a bit of a challenge getting my sculpt details from Nomad to work with Instamat but figured out a workaround using Mari. This is probably my favorite part of the process, getting to paint everything and make textures.

I love the cybernetic core! This is awesome!

Finished working on the textures! Instamat is not the biggest fan of me or my laptop but I managed to make the tubes that transport blood look decently intestine-like. Will need to make a simple rig to pose her and then I can move onto either Unity or Unreal. Not really sure which one would be best for this…
