Hello There!
I only saw this competition Yesterday so I’m going to try my best to compete in this final week!
My idea is a dragon awakened from mankind’s needless wars. It does what dragons do and steals the wealth of mankind, but as we have depleted our natural resources, including precious metals, the beast must adapt. Using cybernetics, it connects to the grid and amasses a fortune of Crypto-Currency. The creature can be found in a crypto mine, connected to the grid, slumbering amidst it’s hoard.

I’m a sucker for anatomy so step one for me yesterday was gathering references, I’ll continue gathering as the week goes on but for right now I have enough to get started.
As an African, I am leaning towards local Monitor lizards as my primary source of inspiration. Specifically the Black-Throated Rock Monitor, they are bulky, bullish, heavy-set monitors that would make an interesting alternative to komodo dragons.
I’m also heavily relying on Vampire Bats as they are the only species that have evolved for locomotion on the ground. When I usually make dragons, and when other artists far greater than me create them, we all seem to fold wings like a bird or a fruit bat, the vampire, however, has a very unique folding mechanism that I want to emulate in this project. I usually create outspread wings and wrestle them into position later, but as this dragon will be pictured on the ground, I’m going to attempt to create them in a folded position ( Heaven help me, I just know it’s a bad idea already!)
I created a psuedo-skull to begin the process, based on the skull of a black throated monitor. I will add horns after I have primary forms down
I’ve been fighting demons all day and I am quite pleased to have a sort of skeleton to drape my muscles over. I’m going to attempt a technique I learned from Dan Katcher in a live seminar in which you pull and drape your muscles over a rudimentary skeleton. I’m hoping I can achieve the same result even though my model is already in a strange pose.
I am happy with my wing folding mechanism though!
I’m also giving this dragon feet that are more reminiscent of a lizard rather than a bat or bird like my instincts usually point towards. I just want to make something different from the norm.

I have been floundering to try meet this deadline, so far I have the general anatomy down. I’ve been staying awake at night thinking of how I’m going to do the cybernetics, I don’t want to overdo it and make the dragon lose it’s ferocity…
Here’s an eyeball for you to look at XD
I have the most basic of anatomical forms laid down now. Tomorrow I’m going to get to sculpting, figure out how to handle the folded wing membranes, and take a crack at those dreaded cybernetics.
I have never participated in a competition before and I am absolutely loving the challenge and comradery of the group!

I will, unfortunately, not be finishing this challenge. I only found out about it a week ago and for the past 3 days, my area’s power has been out. (What are the chances!??)
I’m still super happy that I took part and am including some pics of what I managed to achieve in such a short time.
Best of luck to my friends that are still in the running!!
