Hi there! I’ll be reimagining Anubis, the guide to the underworld from ancient Egyptian mythology. Anubis is typically depicted as either a jackal, or a jackal-headed man, and is also responsible for funerary rites.
For my concept, I wanted to reinterpret one of the stories Anubis appears in from the book of the dead, where he is depicted as weighing a person’s heart on a scale against an ostrich feather from the god of truth and justice, Maat, to determine whether a person’s soul was eligible to transition to the realm of the dead. For my interpretation, I decided to make the ‘scales’ a core feature of his design - instead opting to make them these large mechanical hands that are built into his suit, which he would use to weigh someone’s heart, instead of relying on a separate external device.
