Mutant miner character

Found out about this forum day before yesterday, so i’m gonna share my process from now and further as i learn things.I’m not participating in any challendes actually, but it says that “category can not be blank”. I think my sculpt is very much finished btw. His name is Miloch, he’s a mutant miner that works in abandoned mines. The story behind him is that he was born in the black market lab as one of many experiments to get cheap labour workers. Now i have to learn what retopogy is hehe.

ok soooo, my very first retopogy ever!! i’m doing it in Maya and tbh i don’t think i like Maya very much, that btch was bugging, glitching and gaslighting me so so much. After conform mishap i saw that there were a few places that had some crazy sht going on, so i had to redo them manually. Area around the belly button and eeevery single nail and fingertip areas. at some point i was very happy that i decided to sculpt him with 4 fingers instead of five lol. Now that organic part is done, i will move to retopology of hard surface and it supposed to be easier, or so i’ve heard. I sure hope so, it was quite a ride, took me almost 1 working week. But i hope that once i get used to it - my speed wil be faster.

hey there, i showed my retopo to some friends and they gave me a lot of feedback, turns out it wasn’t very good, the geo was too dense and i should have kept it much simpler, there were too many quads around the nipples and belly button and i should have revisited hands, nails etc. so i redid it with this new feedback and i think this time is much better, but it’s always possible that i have few spots that need fixing :slight_smile: here is the new geo




Still a WIP (hard-surface parts next), but I’d love any thoughts or tips before I go further. Learning a lot during this project and pushing to improve!

ok sooooo retopo is officially dooonneeeee hehe. i showed my retopo to my mentor and he said that it’s better to do geo on his chest and his right side of the face so the geo shapes the form properly so i redid those parts. also finished retopo of other parts of the sculpt - helmet, oxygen tank, all those tubes etc. i think now i can move to UVs and bake hehe. if you guys have any tips or thoughts - i would love to hear <3

hi theeeeere, i think my first uv unwrapping is done, if it’s good i will move to unwrapping other bits of the model like helmet, oxygen tank etc. i started cutting and unwrapping in maya but i had an issue with double geo around a few spots. and idk why, but i couldn’t get rid of it. soooo i switched to blender, i decided to go the easy way - otherwise i will be stuck here till New Years i swear. in blender it took me like 2 buttons to get rid of double geos and that’s it.


here, also the checker seems to be fine, but i am irritated that it gets stretched out on the nose…
